Dublin Sole Trader & PAYE worker

Hi All, I work as a sole-trader as a side to my main employment as a PAYE worker. I recently got married and am not sure if we are efficiently balancing our credits etc. I've been tracking invoices and expenses but I'm a bit stumped about filing a tax return and how it interacts with my PAYE...

Sole Trader - is a laptop a capital expense?

Slight angular to this topic. - I am a recently registered sole trader. - I use a laptop bought before I registered as a sole trader, but use it on a daily basis exclusively for work. - This laptop is no longer fit for purpose and no-longer upgradable/repairable to any standard due to...

Which Computer language to learn first?

I'd recommend Ruby as a modern programming language that is simple to get started with and nice to get advanced with when you're ready. There's plenty of library support, and lots of documentation on the web. Try it here - http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/ Read about it here -...

Comp Sci or Software/Electronics Eng - job prospects?

It would depend on the course content specifically, which university is this? I work for a big multinational in the Cloud Computing space. We find that Computer Science fundamentals are the things most lacking in candidates when we test them. Since they transcend technologies, programming...

HSE Front line staff - Temporary (Agency) vs. Permanent questions.

Seeking a bit of advice on the following situation. Feel free to move this around if I'm in the wrong forum. My partner is a an Agency employee working for a HSE client (a large hospital). She recently learned that due to renegotiation with the HSE, that her pay is to be cut by 15%. She...

Rabo charged me 27% dirt on interest for 2010 instead of 25%

Very interesting. Pre April 2009 this was 23%, we are now at 27% which is particularly bad for those locked into Term Deposits for a period longer than 1 year.

Rabo charged me 27% dirt on interest for 2010 instead of 25%

Interesting. Are there any online resources that defines this an what pay date actually means ( DIRT pay date? ). This would be particularly busing for somebody coming out of a 5 year term deposit. I would demand interest accrued for for each year be charged at the prevailing rate for the...

Rabo charged me 27% dirt on interest for 2010 instead of 25%

Nah, you just forget about those a lot quicker - if you hear about them at all. For example, BOI ATMs got generous a few weeks ago. Also, in terms of PR, what bank would chase people en mass that it has undercharged? I don't work in a bank or anything, I can just imagine it's no peachy deal...

    HP Laptop in PC World sale - 4GB RAM/500GB disk - €479

I bought this exact one on behalf of my brother and am planning to do the same on behalf of my sister. In my opinion, definitely the best for the price when graphics, memory,RAM and build quality are considered.

Rabo charged me 27% dirt on interest for 2010 instead of 25%

That's grand, these things happen. Happy enough with that customer experience, to be honest.

Rabo charged me 27% dirt on interest for 2010 instead of 25%

I requested clarification also, as I have suffered the same wrt Rabobank DIRT. That I would be charged 27% DIRT for interest accrued in a year where 27% DIRT was not yet applicable appears to me like a retrospective taxation.

    Excessive Broadband Bill

What speed is your broadband connection? It looks me like the maximum supported download rate for Perlico is 3Mb (megabits). This will give you a theoretical maximum of ~ 0.39 MBytes download per second. To hit the 56GB limit in October you would have had to used ~ 1.8GB per day you would...

    Christmas in New York

Just back myself. Stayed in the Exelsior hotel on west 81st, beside the museum. Great location for quiet high quality eateries that are still cheap away from the hustle and bustle. The subway a-b-c line are a 2 min walk away and will have you in the Rockerfeller Center/Mix in about 15 mins. Was...

Don't worry about not having your receipt, the customer services guys can reprint them going back a year. Just give them the name/address you provided at purchase and they should be able to trace it. Yes, you are covered under the warranty. My guess is you'll have to book the PC in for...
