Live in landlord renting multiple rooms and tax/rtb implications

It's simple enough. I had two lodgers at one time when things were tough. I wrote up a T&C for them - just basically saying the rent was x amount, it covered rent and utilities (I couldn't be arsed with arguments) and this was the date they moved in, so rent was due from the 2nd of that month...

    Retirement and Social Welfare question

The other thing to bear in mind is that getting your pension from the HSE can take anything from 6 months to a year. You're effectively left without an income for that period.

Key Post Title Deeds - What documents should be scanned as a backup?

I was just coming to ask a similar question, so am delighted to have found this. I thought I was going to bank to pick up a document, and instead got a 2" thick folder of documents, with 3 sheets naming the contents, going back to 1937. I think I'll regard the scanning as a retirement...

If I marry my Partner how can I ensure my Child gets the Home

Being in much the same boat, married in later life - I owned a house, new partner owned a house. I asked a solicitor informally about making a will and leaving a life interest in my home (bigger) that we live in to my partner, and he went Oooooh, that'll be difficult. What we wanted to do was...

Take wife’s pension lump sum to indirectly fund my AVCs??

I'm just wondering what happens should the unthinkable happen, and one of you predecease the other? What if - hopefully not - you keel over in 2 years time? All pensions are betting on the future of course.

The cooker's only a couple of years old.

Thinking of getting induction cooker due to air quality -recommendations?

I was using both the big oven and the hob. I mean I didn't feel any bad effects from it, have been cooking with gas all my adult life, but was shocked when I saw how high the CO2 levels were, and how it took for them to go down into the safe/green zone.

Thinking of getting induction cooker due to air quality -recommendations?

I've a freestanding gas cooker and noticed that when I'm cooking that the Aranet CO2 detector goes into a very high range (2000+). Even with the window open, and extractor fan on, it goes over 1000. So I was quite shocked, especially as it takes a long time to reduce when I open the window...

    Surveyor cost! Forgot that one.

Advice for someone hoping to be a first time buyer?

Thanks for that RedOnion! Appreciate it. Work is a mixture of employment and freelancing, here and in England. Although the majority of the self-employment is here, as the freelancing in Britain (if I'm correct in this) seems to be more formal with tax and NI deducted. But it's all reflected...

Advice for someone hoping to be a first time buyer?

My not-so-youngster is thinking about buying in the next few years. And it's a long time since I bought a house so my info may be out of date. Here's my summary of what I said: 1 Save, save, save till the pips squeak, and use a higher interest European bank to save in. 2 Keep a second saving...

You're nearly 55 and you're sick of Money Makovers

These all seem clear, and useful, apart from #13 - what's an Afterlife loan? Is this when you sell your house to a company that pays for it over your expected lifetime, or something?

Finding a (possible) old pension, company long defunct

No, I was basically the office junior. Thanks everyone for the advice, I think asking all the pensions companies is probably best. I know my various policies have changed company several times, making it difficult to know who's got what offhand. But I'm pretty good at filing so can search that...

Finding a (possible) old pension, company long defunct

Lol, I was in primary school in the 60s! The company's name stuck in my head as I was the entire legal dept for it, and had to go give evidence in the various District Courts on the loan defaulters on a regular basis. I'll try Irish Life, so. Many thanks, all!

Finding a (possible) old pension, company long defunct

Pensions Authority said they don't have records when I rang them some years ago. The company's name was C.H. Arthur Ltd. They provided financing for car loans, specifically Renault iirc. Yeah, I've moved a lot. I was living in a shared house in Inchicore at the time, so no hope of finding me...

Finding a (possible) old pension, company long defunct

I've had a chequered career, quite a few different jobs especially in the first decade and more, and now it's time to retire. The company I worked for back in the late 70s when I was about 20 or so, was taken over a few years after I left by another company whose name I don't remember. Is there...

Delays in accessing figures for HSE pension, never mind the pension itself

I'm wondering if everyone retiring from the HSE is having the same difficulty. I retired in January this year. Haven't got the figures yet. Without the figures, can't access AVC pension or other pensions. I was told on handing in my retirement notice that there may be a delay of 5-6 months in...
