Council installing Speed Ramps that do not comply with Legislation

I should have said earlier that this is a (new) combined pedestrian crossing/ramp, on a cul-de-sac, and will be located right at a junction (with the majority of traffic turning and little straight on traffic). The gradient is 1:8, per Council design, however there is a natural fall at this...

Council installing Speed Ramps that do not comply with Legislation

ajapale, we are talking about the same thing. Documentation received from a local councillor refers to "raised ramps". All these ramps/tables etc must comply with SI 32/98 Road Traffic (Bollards & Ramps) Regulations. These stipulate a maximum height of 100mm - ours are going to be 152mm (6")...

Council installing Speed Ramps that do not comply with Legislation

No idea what standards the Council are referring to - these weren't cited in their response. However the info in the Regulations, in my opinion, is sufficient to shoot down the installation.

Council installing Speed Ramps that do not comply with Legislation

My local council is in the process of installing a speed ramp/elevated pedestrian crossing on my road, a cul-de-sac with just 25 houses. I have a number of issues: a) The ramp height is to be 150mm (100mm is the legal max) b) It is at a junction (ramps must be a minimum of 8 metres from a...

Secondary Teacher - "PRD Underpayment 09"

Last night, I came across a link on the ASTI website to [broken link removed]. In addition to the current deductions for 2009, it looks like there will be deductions, yet to come, for 2010 and 2011. Fwiw, I reckon it's pretty poor practice to be revisiting pay nearly 3 years after the event.

Secondary Teacher - "PRD Underpayment 09"

Mrs MM got her fortnightly payslip today, with a relatively small deduction on it listed as "PRD Underpayment 09". She rang the Dept. payroll section this afternoon and was told that there would be a further deduction in her next pay cheque. I spoke to the person in the payroll section. [I...

    I downloaded McAfee unintentionally

McAfee, like Norton, is a memory hog. Make sure that you have got all the 'bits', after you've got rid of it. Some of the bits are like the living dead and hang around after they're 'killed'. McAfee have a [broken link removed] to get rid of 'stuff'. Haven't used it myself, don't know how...

Kindle - USB or EU Power Adapter?

Update on Kindle Got my Kindle from Amazon in the US last week. Ordered on Thurs and arrived on the following Tues. The only charger it came with was a Kindle specific cable with a USB conn on the other end. I have a USB mains plug that came with my Garmin Forerunner watch and the Kindle...

Kindle - USB or EU Power Adapter?

Just checked with PC World - my local is out of stock until next week - the price for the 3G version is €199. Amazon's price is €181.97, inc VAT & delivery. I should have it by next Tues and save myself €17 too. Thanks for the input everyone!

Kindle - USB or EU Power Adapter?

I meant to get a price from PC World/Currys/Dixons but haven't got round to it - they don't have it listed on-line. I;d be surprised if they match the on-line price though. Wrt Kindle only taking Amazon formats, I understand that Calibre will convert to several formats, including Amazon's. On...

Kindle - USB or EU Power Adapter?

I'm going to order a Kindle in the next few days, but wondering about charging. Apparently it comes with a USB charging cable, but there is an EU power Adapter available also (€20.00 extra). Is it worth getting the adapter or is the USB charger adequate? Also, the Amazon site has the option...

Motor Claim against me but I wasnt there

A friend of mine told me that, many, many years ago, he parked behind a new car, as his was, same make model & colour and HIS reg no. Turned out that both cars had the same but opposite numbers, i.e. his no on the front of his car and also on the back of the other. The other car had a number 1...

Is it legal for me to place glass on the top of rear garden wall to prevent trespass?

Several years ago, somehow or other , my back wall got covered with an awful dirty slimy 'guck'. A young lad, that I didn't know, came around with his mother to complain about his clothes being "destroyed". I explained to her that I did have awful problems with pigeons roosting on...

AVC via Cornmarket ~ annual fees etc.

Its a while since I looked at Cornmarket stuff - my wife has an AVC that she stopped paying into, so charges are now minimal. The main cost of your €500 is probably the charge for your annual meeting with the rep - there is (or used to be, anyway) an additional hefty charge for this. Just get...

    George Lee Resigns?

Is that YOUR preference? That he stay in something he clearly did NOT want to stay in? Stick it out whatever?? BTW, looks like he's set a precedent........any chance Biffo, Jackie and a few others might follow suit....for the good of the country? I wonder......Would the country be in a...

    George Lee Resigns?

....and the labels keep coming! What is it that annoys you most? Is it that he didn't live up to your high expectations of politicians? ...or...that he had the gumption to walk away? It's easy for the rest of us to snipe away behind the anonymity of our pseudonyms. It's a lot...

    George Lee Resigns?

Purple, at worst, I'd probably nit-pick at some of your post. We mightn't be in tune, but it sounds like the same song. I don't think it's that George Lee backed the wrong horse - all the current horses, imho, should be taken to the knackers yard - but that he found/realised that major change...

    George Lee Resigns?

Your point?? Lenihan is sticking to his guns, while Lee is sticking to his principles. Besides..what did you expect Linehan to do? Roll over? I think he and I have more self-respect and determination than that. As I said we get on with it!
