Irish Government Bonds for the retail punter

Update - bought the 0.2% May 27 issue on DeGiro. €3 transaction fee - great service! One tip - the executable bid / offer spread on Degiro looks a faction wider than I see quoted by the primary dealers. If you're not in a rush try leaving a limit order slightly inside the offer price.. worked...

    Paying voluntary UK NIC contributions

Hi, I paid my first class 2 contribution in January this year but it still hasn't shown up on my NI record online. Should I follow up or does it generally take months for HMRC process these payments? Also do I need to fill out a new CF83 each year now that I am 'in the system' they will just...

    Flat roof maintenance

Instead of painting might it be an option to transform it into a 'living roof' by laying sedum trays or some equivalent? I believe if done right they will both extend the life of the roof and also add to home insulation

    Tax on Government Bonds

I'm not familiar with the DeGiro offering tbh but all accessible via Cantor for sure.

    Tax on Government Bonds

28% after tax.. but I agree the broad point. Nevertheless, I still see it being a more interesting option relative to longer fixed term cash deposit, An Post savings bonds etc. Shorter term issues might be more value as the curve is practically flat from 1 - 10yr e.g. 0.2% coupon issue...

    Tax on Government Bonds

This trade will now pay a 3% yield to maturity.. I'm tempted to jump in if my assumption on the tax treatment is correct - can anyone confirm?

    Tax on Government Bonds

Does this mean that if I buy a zero coupon Irish Govt Bond and hold it to maturity that I will pay no capital gains tax? e.g. there is a EUR 9bn 0% issue maturing 18th Oct 2031 that trades at ~78c face value today / 2.8% imputed yield. If I buy that and hold it until is redeemed at par then I...

    bi-directional EV charger

Has anyone any experience with the use of bi-directional EV chargers (e.g. https://wallbox.com/en_uk/quasar-dc-charger) that support vehicle to home / grid (V2H / V2G)? As far as I can see, only the Nissan Leaf openly supports the technology so far but other manufacturers will surely follow in...

    Exploding window!

Hi AAM community, Hoping for some guidance if anyone has been through this situation. We have several large tempered glass windows in our house that were installed about 2 years ago. One of them has literally exploded out of the blue and I'm told the likely cause is a Nickel Sulphide...

    Home wind turbine

Hi Pkmwgs, thanks for the reply - great info. Any chance you could DM me the name of the supplier / fitter?

    Home wind turbine

great map - if I am reading it correctly the windspeed for our location is 5m/s at 20m. Fair points on other ways to reduce energy usage generally. We'll make an effort to do more but my sole motivation is not necessarily to lower costs - its partly just out of a desire to be more energy...

    Home wind turbine

Not priced anything yet - that's some of the guidance I was hoping to garner from the AAM community as I can't even find a company to provide a quote. Seems there are endless firms in the residential solar space but not so many in offering residential wind installations.

    yes definitely the forever home

    Home wind turbine

not entirely a financial decision - I understand the payback period can make for questionable financial common sense and I'm ok with that. We do heat the whole home and have zoned control so tend to have the bedrooms cooler for example. Day / night breakdown is about 60:40

    Home wind turbine

yes heating and ventilation included. We do have LEDs throughout, also have a night rate and switch ever year. Undoubtedly there's more we could do around the edges but looking long term I can see us having 2 electric cars so really looking for a solution to generate a significant amount of...

    Home wind turbine

Mostly on a 16kwh ground source heat pump and 2 MVHR units. Its a big house and I could probably do with turning down the temperature but while working from home we have it set to 23c 24/7

    Home wind turbine

no and I'm not against solar but its just that we'd need so many to make a meaningful dent in our overall electricity usage that I reckon it they would be all over the house - hence the preference for the wind option if viable.

    Home wind turbine

Hi ABM community, I am considering installing a wind turbine to contribute toward powering our home and lower our energy bills. We have a large elevated site are are not overlooked so I expect we will have 'good wind'. The idea would be to install a reasonably big unit e.g. ~4kw hooked up to a...
