    DIRT & Fixed Term Deposit

Fair point jpd, but would getting shorter term bonds be a problem? If interest rates go up the value of the bond goes down. I still feel 4 years is not an issue for a 65 years old - these days it's comparatively young. They have contingencies in case of ill-health etc.

    DIRT & Fixed Term Deposit

I'm trying to advise a an aunt & uncle in relation to deposits but have come accross something I'm unsure of. They are over 65, have a lump sum to invest, and would qualify for DIRT exemption in the normal course. They want to put the money into a 4 year fixed account whereby the interest is...

    Cash extraction

Thanks for the help. It is a close company and liquidating it is not an option. Wanted to make sure there was some scope before getting a tax adviser involved.

    Cash extraction

I'm a shareholder in private company that also has non exec shareholders. The company is doing well, thankfully, and I'm due to receive a substantial dividend in respect of this year. Apart from pensions, are there ways of mitigating or alleviating my personal tax on the dividends or are there...

Does the Income Levy apply to Redundancy Payments?

Brendan, The last paragraph on page 4 seems to give a concessionary treatment in relation to SCSB: "Following consultations regarding the above treatment, the Revenue Commissioners will now allow the same treatment for income levy purposes as applies for income tax purposes in relation to...

    Jersey Bank Account

Thanks for the link ClubMan, the Appendix A on the Moving to Ireland leaflet seems to support what the tax adviser told me i.e. I am non-domicled and as such only liable to Irish tax on foreign sourced income to the extent that they are remittanced to Ireland.

    Jersey Bank Account

I'm told that my domicile is English as that is where I was born and raised and will, most likely, retire to. I do pay Irish taxes on my income here and indeed on some free-lance work I do for a company in the UK. I'm just concerned that advice I was given in the past by a tax adviser may not...

    Jersey Bank Account

I'm from England but have been resident in Ireland for a number of years. I have a deposit account in Jersey and have been told in the past that I do not need to declare this to the Irish tax authorities because I am non-domiciled and because I do not remit anything from the account to Ireland...

    Small Self Administered Pension

Re: Small Self administrated Pension I enquired last year about setting one up and got a list from the department of finance I think. One that I found very good who actually disuaded me - a company called Meritas in Sandyford. They had a set up fee around €3k and an annual fee of around €1k I...

    Sheltering Maintenance Payments

I am divorced and in receipt of maintenace payments both for myself and my children. While the payments for my children are paid net, the maintenance I recieve is gross and I am liable for tax on it. I, sensibly, wanted to allocate some of the maintenance for the future as this may be uncertain...
