    Mortgage help from parents

Hello, I am back again with a question on the mechanics of this. We are providing a loan of 70K to our daughter and husband, who are now actually buying an actual house :-). We plan to vary the agreement once they have moved in to say it is a loan payable at x per month, and will back this up...

    Mortgage help from parents

I think I found the relevant page - http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/cat/thresholds.html Thanks for the very informative illustration. So, once we decide on how much and how to give them a sum, daughter then does a declaration to the revenue, is that correct? Or does the declaration come from us?

    Mortgage help from parents

I have another question (I am full of questions today). Say we want to do a straight gift of 50K. But if we do that, won't they have to pay gift tax? The exception is only 3K a year, so 6K for husband and I.

    Mortgage help from parents

I would not be looking for a claim to the property - it would be an unsecured loan, interest free with a repayment level that would be within the means of the couple.

    Mortgage help from parents

Thank you Brendan, appreciate the reply. So tax is not an issue, which is good. The problem with a loan is that with the current mortgage offer, they insist that any money that comes from other sources is wither their own money or a gift. I am not sure if there is any way round that. I would...

    Mortgage help from parents

May I ask for some information from the knowledgeable experts here, please? My daughter and her husband are planning to buy a house and we are in the fortunate position to help them do that. We can either give them a straight gift, or a much larger interest free loan. We can not lend them...

I don't think the 70s public service marriage ban has any relevance to the question whatsoever.

    2nd class & Communion - still a given?

Given that the vast majority of schools in this country are catholic, there isn't a lot of choice for non-catholics or non-practising catholics.

Is your permission needed by employment agency to switch staff to e-statements?

Many employers have switched to electronic payslips. They don't have to ask permission from everyone, surely it is possible to print them if required. As long as the same information as in the paper ones is provided, they don't need to ask.

Child selling muffins from home over summer holidays.

I doubt a 9 year old making muffins during the school holidays is enough of a business threat to start going on about not paying rates etc. Ye gods!

No easy answer I'm afraid. You should get a plasterer to quote for a skim coat. It should not be too dear.

Assessing Impact of working less hours

Yes, a large part of redundancy pay is free of tax. You can get information at revenue.ie. Your employer will also provide you with information on the tax side. Sorry to hear you are being made redundant. Make sure you claim jobseeker's allowance from the day you are let go. I presume you are...

    Partner being bullied at work

Move. Staying on and fighting is all well and good from the outside, but moving is simpler and ultimately much better for his mental health. Bullying complaints are almost never resolved properly.
