Aer Lingus - Online booking practice

Re: the seat booking... As far as I recall from my most recent booking (ORK - LHR) your details are already finalised once you get to the seat booking screen. i.e. I got my booking number and then exited from the website ignoring the prompt to select seat. Went to the airport early and then...

Primary schools in the Ardee area

Given that myself and my siblings are out of the primary system in Ardee since the early 90's, I can only vouch until then. However, I've yet to hear of any bad complaints since. There are now three primary schools in Ardee - one boys, one girls and one mixed. The boys is the Monastery N.S...

Any opinions on SCTV digital from Cork residents?

So the feedback is good for SKY depending on the alignment! SCTV use it for their C4 feed on their analog service and it's the one channel I get all the time so I'd surmised that it was pretty reliable. Still wondering about SCTV digital though...has anyone subscribed at all? Hope this...

Any opinions on SCTV digital from Cork residents?

Hi, After three years of the weather determining my TV viewing (if it rains and/or is windy..I have 3 channels...if it's fine..marginally 5) , I'm finally caving in to going digital. Based in Crosshaven, so my digital choice is between Sky and South Coast TV (which apparently is rolling...

    Hairdressers in Cork City

Adore on Oliver Plunkett St. (the pedestriansied street across from the bus station) is perhaps the closest to the Clarion....it's on the right hand side coming from the Clarion and has a purple facade. I can only vouch for the beautician side of it myself which is excellent but I hear the...

Black Mould appearing on North facing wall

Have the same problem myself and was on to my local friendly paint guy about it. What all the above folk say is true - circulation etc. However, he did suggest using a certain type of porous paint that would allow the wall to breathe and prevent the mould from forming ( I've forgotten the...

    Life in Ardee co louth?

I'm originally from Ardee but live elsewhere now. But do head back there a lot to visit family and friends so this info should be accurate enough. Heres' a few points... 1. The commute: Well, a lot of Ardee folk do the commute to Dublin out of necessity as Ardee itself does not have any major...

South Coast TV in Cork going digital

It looks as if SCTV will review the situation after today and decide whether or not to go ahead with digital. If they don't, can anyone else let me know what satellite system they're using and would they recommend it? I live in Crosshaven with a bog standard aerial and the number / quality of...

    Esker Meadow Estate - Lucan

Hi NewYork, I used to live in Esker Meadow (just sold my house there in 2005). As an estate, it's great! The houses are very well laid out - in particular the 3 bed ones. My house was open plan throughout the downstairs which made the living area very spacious. Although a lot of the houses...

Buying in Cork City (and surrounds)

Re: Buying in Cork I'd second JohhnyG's post - would not go near any of the estates on the Carrigaline side of Douglas. Maryborough Hill is backed up from the fingerpost roundabout to up past these estates every morning. Know this because I'm sitting behind them on the bus waiting...

Recommendation - Cork area - kitchens

Thanks Sue Ellen for replying! Although that link only alludes to cash & carry, panelling, celtic interiors who I have tried already - the bigger outfits in other words. As alluded to in my post, I am really looking a recommendation for a smaller company in the Crosshaven / Carriagline /...

Recommendation - Cork area - kitchens

Hi , Can anyone recommend a good fitted kitchen supplier in the Crosshaven, Carrigaline, south Cork city area. Have tried cash & carry, keenkost already but didn't like their product range. Kitchen is small (cottage) - only 3.25m along one wall so I really need a supplier who builds tailor...

    Estates in Lucan

Re: Abbeydale vs Griffeen in Lucan Hi Sunsparks, Guess you didn't go with Esker Manor so! Anyhow, I am not familiar with the houses themselves or have I experience of the estates but having lived in Lucan (beside Esker Manor) I can throw my two cents in with respect to their respective...

    Mortgage As A Mature Student

Hiya, I'm currently a mature student and can back up both of the above posts with more detail - they're both spot on in their suggestions. 1. Check out the 'Back to Education' grant. If you do not have a degree already, you can avail of this....I think you have to be on social welfare for...

    Estates in Lucan

Re: Esker Manor - Lucan Fair point....if you're heading into the city centre by car and have somewhere to park...by bus it's a different story altogether. And forget about it if you work anywhere around the M50! I used work on the Northside and it would take over an hour. Friends work in...

    Estates in Lucan

Re: Esker Manor - Lucan Hi - to add to the devil advocate! Houses in Esker Meadow - the estate just behind Esker Manor are now going for approx 30k above the guide prices of 330...and they're flying off the books apparently. Any estate this side of the Penny Hill will probably be in this...

Telecom mast - safe proximity to homes?

Hi, Apparently there is a planning app lodged for ESB to erect a mast right beside my folks house. It will be a '100 scada mast' which will be shared between ESB and Hutchinson 3Gto a) repair electrical problems quicker and b) used as an antenna. It's a countryside site but there are about...

    Cast iron insert

Hi, You can get 'enamel' paint in any DIY store...I know that Woodies also stock a 'heat resistant' paint if you were concerned about the proximity to the fire..ie. prevents blistering etc. It comes in a range of colours. I've used the enamel paint with no issues. C71
