Living in Republic of Ireland, working in Northern Ireland

I have been employed for many years in the Republic of Ireland, where I was born and where I live. I have now been offered a new, better employment opportunity with a North of Ireland company.

I have been given two options:
1) To set myself up as a self-employed business, invoice my new employer weekly for my payment in Euro, and make my own October tax returns to Revenue.
2) To get a Northern Ireland social security number, and a Northern Ireland bank account, and be employed and paid in sterling as a Northern Ireland employee, paying my tax in the UK. I will pay a weekly stamp and accrue all benefits in the North of Ireland.

My question is, are there any pros or cons to either option? As the work is seasonal, I will likely be laid off at the end of October, if that has any bearing on the decision.

I would welcome any informed opinions from anyone here. I will add any information as required. Many thanks.

If you take option 2 you will be accruing UK pension rights. If its just until this October maybe not much but if its an ongoing thing maybe very valuable.

With option 2 you and your dependents, if you have any, will be entitled to a full medical card in the Republic so long as you have no paid employment here. This could change with Brexit. You will also be able to register with a GP in the North and have access to the public health system there which includes free prescriptions for most medications and heavily subsidised dental treatment.

If you are an employee you pay your taxes in the country you work in, so that's the UK, but you still have to make a tax return here. There's a duel taxation agreement in place between the UK and Ireland and that won't change much no matter what sort of Brexit happens.
As a company you may have more issues to deal with and there may be levies etc. You also need to factor in the extra cost of more complex tax returns etc. and being self employed your access to social welfare on either side of the border will be more limited.
