For a car with only one owner, 10 years old and 90k Miles how long should i expect the clutch to last. What are the principal signs that the clutch may pack it up. Know nothing about cars.

Impossible to say. Petrol or diesel, driving style of owner, was it used for towing, was it fully laden when driving, short / long journeys principally, etc etc etc etc etc

With the hand-brake on (assuming the hand-brake is good) what happens when you let the clutch out? If you rev the engine hard in gear, what happens?

Give us an indication of what make the car is. If the clutch does pack up it will cost you around €500 to refit another. But, there could be additional problems affecting the clutch and other parts too, especially with a 10 years old car. A little test:- Put gear into 2nd and after starting engine lift clutch pedal slowly and if car goes forward, the clutch is probably OK.

at 10 years and 90k you have done very well on the clutch

Although your question is basically how long is a piece of string or how should a light bulb last?
