Slightly dented a car in Florida in November last. (Reversed into car which was parked illegally in the drive lane of a restaurant). No major damage, no injuries. Heard nothing from car rental company (Budget). Got letter today inviting me to join class action against Avis/Budget for some case they have going since 2009 in the States. Does anybody have any experience of this stuff, should I ignore the letter?

Don't know. Would it take longer than 3 months for Budget to bill us? The car we hired only had a few scratches but we dented the other car a little.

Sorry, I'm lost. You backed your Budget rental car into another car in Florida a few months ago and nothing came of it. You've now received a letter inviting you to join a class action against Budget and Avis. It's like I fell asleep during an episode of Judge Judy and missed 20 minutes of it. What else happened?

That's brilliant.

Eithne - I wonder if the letter is a scam? You have no claim against Budget. They have not claimed anything against you. Just forget about it.

That's right - nothing has happened since mid November except for this Class Action letter which seems to suggest that the Avis insurance policy is has a problem. I researched the company bringing the action and it certainly looks like the have an ongoing action against Avis since 2009. My instinct says to ignore it but we're puzzled as to why we weren't charged in some way for the bump

How did they get your information, at least establish that.

You have no interest in this class action, you suffered no loss during the period 2009 onwards, nothing got to do with you guys.

Did you buy the addition cdw excess? If so you were fully insured so Avis would not bill you??

The may be issues with this insurance like premium protection here or something similar hence you are being asked to join?

We didn't buy the extra insurance - we have a separate policy with carhireexcess.com. The incident was recorded by local police. Haven't heard from Avis/Budget since we returned the car in early December. The car we bumped into had been hit beforehand by another rental car from Avis. That bump really damaged the driver door.
I have directly contacted the Class Action company via an input Form on their website but no response to date.
