Hello all,
My wife is seriously ill and is due an insurance pay out for cases of serious illness.

One payment is a lump sum towards our joint mortgage and the other is a payment which her trade union pay to those with a serious illness.

Do either of these attract any form of tax?

Thanks

Sorry to hear this. I hope she's okay.

The lump sum is not taxable.

If the union payment is also a lump sum (which I suspect it is), then it is not taxable either.
