Hi,
We are a young family with a 3 year old boy, looking to buy a house in Lisheen fields in Cork. Have been to the site couple of times and it looks a nice residential area. We are new in the city and any advice/point about the neighbourhood would be highly appreciated.

Just a personal tale. About 40 years ago when we were house hunting we fell in love with a few rural areas like Ovens. We eventually ended up in buying in Cork suburbia. We never had regrets as we did not encounter problems re schools, shops, travel to work etc. Life in the country can work out ok but problems can arise and i would suggest a long hard look. When we were house hunting long ago we did not fully appreciate the issues that can arise. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply trojan, but I have same question as PaddyBloggit, what issues could arise?

Well I certainly wouldn't call Lisheen Fields 'the country'. It's in a really nice part of Ballincollig with plenty of choice of schools, shops, sports facilities, library and a very good regular bus service. I have family members living nearby and they love it (they also have a 3 year old).

Totally agree. Ballincollig is a lovely place to live with a great selection of shops, restaurants, schools, cinema. The gorgeous Oriel house has a leisure centre that includes toddlers swimming classes. Supernova play centre is great for a rainy day and the beautiful Regional Park, with it's new playground is one of the best free amenities in the county.

Apologies for delay in responding. When i read the post first i thought the house was in a rural area but subsequent posts paint a different picture.ur issue would be the transport of kids to schools and later on as teenagers bringing and collecting them. Where we live now they were able to walk to school and we have a frequent bus service.

As a parent of teenagers I couldn't agree more! ;) Thankfully we're within walking distance of anywhere they want to go in Ballincollig. Now when it comes to ferrying them to parties in "The Bish", "Aunties" etc...
