Better option is to go for stock's transfer agent. To determine the transfer agent, visit the company's investor relations Web page or call the investor relations division and ask.
The difficulty with a broker/brokerage firm is that you may have to go through a strenuous task of opening a brokerage account and following their circuitous procedures.

Hi there. I am in a similar boat to the OP looking to transfer a number of paper Ryanair shares into electronic format (whatever precisely that is?) I then want to then put them onto my new DeGiro account.

I checked with Goodbodys and they charge handsomely for this service, requiring you to set up a client account. I followed Rahul5s suggestion and emailed the Ryanair investor relations section. The sent me to a company called Link Registers Ltd. and guess what....LRL referred me back to the stockbroker route and gave me a list. Wonderful !

Has anything moved on since December 2015 when this thread was first posted. What it the cheapest and safest way to get paper shares transferred to electronic ones.?

Anybody....?

I am a Goodbody client and contacted them, there is no charge if you already have an account and want to "lodge" them into your client account.

From memory, the online share dealing account with Goodbody costs €60 per year.
