My mother passed away during the summer and I am living in the house. The house has been left to me and I'm not selling. I also have a sister and we are executors. I want everything above board so I phoned help line - after being put on hold and asked if i plan to sell and i said no - i was told i can just use the property id,pin and obviously will have to use my mothers PPSN number. I have just logged in ok so it will work.

Should i just go ahead and pay - i even mentioned to the girl should she add 'the reps of the late Mrs..' and she didnt seem bothered.

Never asked me at any stage even for the address. Has anybody gone through this before?

Have you tried 1234567T?

Sometimes works in nonsensical cases where the use of a makey uppy PPS number is harmless.

I still have a record of my late mothers PPS and have used it to log in. I would have thought Revenue would have a more formal method of dealing with people going through probate.

It seems like once they get the money they don't care what name the property is registered in or who pays.

If you have the LPT letter with the property id it should have a barcode on the end so you can pay it at the post office without needing a PPS number.

"I would have thought Revenue would have a more formal method of dealing with people going through probate."

But presumably the house is still in your mother's name? So it is her estate that is liable. Hence her PPS number.

When the property is vested in your name, you can register with REvenue for LPT as owner. With your own PPS number.

Can she not just register the property under her name with her PIN and pay it that way, seems the easiest option.

Posts split to new thread for clarity... OP, let me know if you'd prefer a different thread title.

Just an update - by coincidence the next morning after I phoned Revenue, a letter arrived addressed to 'The Personal Rep of Mrs' so I will go ahead and pay online.

If you don't have funds available to pay this, you can ask for a deferral until probate is granted and you have funds to pay all bills. There is an interest charge of (I think) 4% per annum if you avail of the deferral.

i am the executor of a will , the house will be sold before the end of january . my question is who is liable for the property tax for the whole of 2016.

The Vendor ( you) will be liable for the entire amount ( unless there is some exemption) and payment in full for 2016 will have to be made before completion but discuss this with your solicitor and confirm that the Purchaser will be liable to refund, to you, the total amount due by them.
