Mice in the walls

We have mice in the dry walls. It has been a few years since we last had them. Thought we had found the access point but obviously not. We normally catch them in the attic with the old style traps. On checking the web, some pest control sites claim that they can identify access points and proof the house. Has anyone ever used such a service and any recommendations greatly accepted ?

Had them on and off over the years, a trap or two in the hot press always yielded a favourable result. ;-)

Find it hard to believe you could effectively "mouse-proof" a house, they can get in through unbelievably small openings.

Cheers SparkRite, will be setting the traps in the attic later. Normally used to get them there, never used to see tracks or droppings in the rooms, but they do my head in.

Yes indeed, I know exactly what you mean............the noise of them at night, just when you're trying to drop off, is somewhat disconcerting, to say the least.

I had the same problem. It was like having a herd of elephants in the attic and the I could hear the scratching in the walls....I hated it. I tried to deal with it myself initially but to no avail so I called Rentokill. They were excellent. They sent out a guy who looked all over the house until he found the access point. He put down the poison and when the house was clear he gave me advice on how to sort the problem out. It was money well spent. I would definitely recommend you to get them. Mice can get into a hole only a pencil would fit through. You might never find the access point without professional help.

Thanks for replies. Just checked traps and got one so far. Again, it is where they are getting in that is annoying me. Did it cost much for rentokill to look at this?

My cat brings mice in, dead or alive but mostly half dead, or in physical shock or with guts hanging out.

Thanks for that Socrates, it's actually fascinating and very educational for the children. We've had many's the laugh catching the live mice, as I said the eldest doesn't even blink now if a mouse is under the bed and the youngest loves looking at baby rats etc in the pet shop. Ugh. Even if cute and clean. Ugh.
