I recently requested a balancing statement form revenue. Three showed a minor overpayment on my part. The treatment was "Offset against PAYE €**** 2008" which I am assuming means an underpayment in 2008. I have asked for confirmation.
Unknown to me then, was the benefit of joint assessment for married couples (which I have recently rectified). As it would have it my wife was on unpaid maternity in 2008 and therefore we overpaid substantially. I have written off any possibility of this getting this given the 4 year limit. However, now that it seems revenue have re-examined this year should I not be able to get the benefit of this especially since they are sighting an underpayment?
