Hi Deirdre52,

Welcome to AAM. Just to confirm the price for Health Plus Extra, from 1st November 2015, will be 2280 per adult. All prices quoted below include increases if applicable from 1 November 2015.
This plan includes 100% Level 2 cardiac cover called a TAVI procedure - which is specialised valve replacement surgery by keyhole, only if a person is otherwise not suitable for open heart surgery. This is subject to strict criteria.

The only alternative cheaper plans that also have this cover (90% tavi cover) with VHI are as follows;
1. Healthplus Access (Plan B); price 1858 per adult; similar hospital cover as before(no hospital excess), some outpatient cover(300 excess)
2. Healthplus Excess (Plan B Excess); price 1632 per adult; similar hospital cover includes a private hospital excess, 75 euro, this is payable for every private or hi-tech hospital admission or day case. Some outpatient cover (300 excess).

Alternative plans with no Tavi cover, with similar hospital cover, no private hospital excess as follows;
3. One Plan Extra; price 1391 per adult; similar hospital cover(no hospital excess), limited day-to-day cover.
4. Company Plan Extra Level 3; price 1565 per adult; similar hospital cover(no hospital excess), excellent day-to-day cover(1 euro excess).

5. NEW PLAN PMI 42 15 ( from 1/11/2015); price 1560pa; similar to Company Plan Extra Level 3.

NOTE; The above plans 1 & 2 + Healthplus Extra(your current plan) have 90% orthopaedic cover in private and hi-tech hospitals,
plans 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 have 80% cover.
However, the hi-tech hospitals Mater Private Dublin and Blackrock Clinic are waiving the shortfalls for these surgeries ( hip and knee replacement).
So in effect, there is 100% orthopaedic cover in these 2 hospitals for all plans 1 to 8 inclusive.

There are cheaper options with VHI, with no TAVI cover, including a private hospital excess;
A private hospital excess is payable to the hospital for every admission or day case, it does not apply to any public hospital.
6. Plan PMI 37 13; Price 1011 per adult; similar hospital cover including 100 euro excess, limited day to day cover.
7. Plan PMI 36 13; price 1175 per adult; similar hospital cover including 75 euro excess, good day to day cover.
8. Company Plan Extra Select; price 1187 per adult; similar hospital cover 100 excess, limited day to day cover.

Details of the new prices from 1st November 2015 as follows;

Lots of alternative options to consider, plenty of savings without compromising on cover.

Thank yo very much Snowyb , I will look into these plans

As a follow on to previous post, regarding plans that include extra day to day outpatient expense, plans 4, 5 or 7 shown above.
VHI impose waiting times before you can claim according to a person's age.
Under 50 years - no waiting applies.
Age 50 - 64 years - 1 year waiting applies.
Age 65 years + over - 2 years waiting applies.
If a waiting time applies, you would still have outpatient day to day cover under your current plan 'Healthplus Extra' while waiting.

Hospital cover is similar to previous cover so no waiting applies in that regard.
