I'm in North County Dublin and am starting to switch my mortgage. Part of this will include involving a solicitor to do whatever it is they do (I don't really know) in this process.

When I bought my house a decade ago I just went down to my local solicitor. They did their work and gave me a bill for 2 and a half grand.

So this time I want to be a bit more informed and price around.
I'll be meeting with my banks over the next couple of weeks and I presume they'll help with my requirements.
But what questions should I be asking of a solicitor? How much should I be expecting to pay roughly (house worth €380K, mortgage worth €250K) and if anybody can recommend any good ones I'd appreciate it.

Ask them how much will it cost to switch lender. There really isn't any other question.

Your original solicitor might do it more cheaply than someone else because they would be familiar with the file.

€1000/1250 plus VAT plus outlays would seem to be a ballpark figure. the days of €2500 or a percentage of the loan died with the Tiger!

Qwerty, I just completed a switch myself in North County Dublin (using a local firm this time, rather than the original firm).
Brendan is correct - I simply emailed them asking for a quote for switching a mortgage which turned out to be very competitive, and am very happy with their service. Direct Law, in Skerries (no affiliation).
