I'm trying to decide whether to take money from my saving to clear my credit card before applying for a mortgage for the first time and would love to know if anyone has recently secured a mortgage with an outstanding credit card balance?

Cheers

Looks better from a money management point of view to clear it, why have savings and be paying high interest on a credit card. Depending on whether you have a few hundred or thousands outstanding obviously.

How was explained to me is one of the things mortgage providers are looking at is ability to meet repayments; they will "stress test" you by adding a factor to cover rises in interest rates. If you have monthly credit card repayments, this impacts your ability to meet repayments/reduces the amount you could borrow. I would suggest clearing the credit card (and probably you are paying more interest than receiving on savings)
