Hi I recently broke a bone in my foot which means I cant drive to work. Because of where I live and work I will be getting taxis in and out of work ( for the next 6 weeks!). I have been advised as these will be taxis to and from my home they are subject to BIK ( PAYE and PRSI) they only exception is if I work after 10pm ( normal hours are 9-5). My work have agreed to pay the taxi fares but in line with revenue guidelines will put this through payroll. Does anyone know if there are separate rules given the extent of my injury - would a doctors note make any difference. thanks

That's a very interesting question.

Why don't you phone the revenue office that deals with you directly and ask them. If this is a medical necessity I can't imagine that they are that heartless?? It might be that your company puts it through payroll and that you claim it as an expense wholly necessarily and exclusively etc. Though my gut says probably not.

Think on the positives of the petrol money you are saving, and less stress also with time saved using taxi/bus lanes. Will allow you to put your feet up ...... and rest.

Thanks I rang revenue and they confirmed it is subject to BIK - no other credits allowabale!

I was in same position, taxi driver told me if no public transport available, was allowable. Not sure if correct, but might be worth looking into.
