I have just been sent renewal for two adults (nurses plan) 1 child and one young adult which has come to about €3,300. When I enquired about overall increase, it seems VHI no longer have rate for student in third level and so my 20 yr old has been put on young adult. We just need basic cover for the kids and we would like semi p in private for ourselves, GP and day to day cover not needed. We are living in south west but would like access to Dublin hospitals. (Beacon etc) I have tried to compare online but am absolutely baffled ! Nurses Plan was best for us but I haven't a clue now. As for the Orth & ophthalmic vs Cardiac choices that you are expected to make - How on earth do you know?
Would appreciate any pointers..
Thanks.

Sorry I've no advice but I'm curious as to weather you asked VHI to recommend you a policy? The Consumer Protection Code requires them to recommend the most suitable policy to you and to explain why it's the most suitable. They may have a very similar policy at a better price.

Actually, no. I didn't ask them to recommend any others. I assumed that they wouldn't be that helpful in that regard but will phone and ask . Thanks

*Note; for Start Plan and Start Plan 250, check that the specific list of public and private hospitals suit your location if choosing either of these plans.*

There's plenty of savings to be made without compromising on hospital cover.

Thank you so much for your reply Snowyb..
Sorry I haven't logged on for a while so didn't notice your comprehensive reply. I appreciate the suggestions re PMI 37.13
I'm also looking ay Laya for the adults. ? Control 300 Total. VHI have the reduced cover for Ophthalmic + Ortho on most of their plans, which I don't like. Laya seem not to discriminate between procedures just as much. Possible we may need the Orth cover given family history and don't want to have this cover reduced.
For young adults and kids VHI seem to offer the best prices..
