Immersion Heater Light query

Hello,

I've changed out our immersion switch, was over 10 years old and had stopped working.

The water is heating (yeah!), but the Red light is always on (Boo!), varying in brightness.

When in the switched ON position it's bright red and when it's in the OFF position it's a lot dimmer, but definitely on. It's therefore receiving current. I don't think the previous switch used to have any light when off.

Anybody come across this before - I've googled, but to no avail.

I've either got the wiring wrong (thought it was right) or it's a dim light to guide to the switch in the dark (doubtful).

Get an electrician to check it out. The light should not be illuminated when the switch is off, so there's a problem somewhere on that circuit.

Thanks guys. My brother is an electrician (from an electrical family - except me) - was trying to avoid that particularly embarrassing phone call :)

I do still have 3 dim red lights when it's switched off. I take it it's working correctly.

I'd also advise getting that checked out. Even dim lights indicates the presence of electricity, suggesting your isolation switch is faulty and a potential fire hazzard.

On a side note - I fitted one of these about 2 years ago -

I never again have to worry about whether someone in my household left the immersion on.

How did you get on Redone?

Legrand white 20a sink/bath immersion switch with neon is the one I have. It was fitted 5 years ago when the house was fully re-wired and the 3 small red lights are very dim in the off position.

The feed is wired to the wrong side of the switch.

If you swap the lives one side to the other of the switch the light will go out and come on when the switch is on.
