Hi,

I was buying a house and i signed a contract with my solicitor and the contract fell through after there was problems on the vendor side, due to being bankrupt. The contact end up Noll and void.

There is a new contract going in issued in the next few weeks and i would like to know if we have pay the whole fee again even that it wasn't are fault.

I wanted to get the solicitor to look over the new contract to make sure everything is above board but on the other hand i don't want to be hit with a double bill that wasn't my fault.

Can they charge me double?

Why not? They are doing the work on the double.

It wasn't your solicitor's fault that the contract fell through the first time.

In any event, talk to your solicitor .... they may reduce fees ... but you won't know until you ask.

Can you explain?

What fee did you pay the solicitor for the aborted purchase? Was it the full fee agreed? or less? At what stage did the purchase collapse? Do you think you should not have to pay the solicitor for acting for you - it may not have been your fault but the solicitor still did the work?

Are you buying another house? You need a solicitor. You can go elsewhere.

"Can they charge me double?"

Or

Is a solicitor entitled to be paid for work done?

Yes.
