New Laptop advice

My dell studio 1749 on/off switch has been given trouble for a while. Now it's off and won't switch on. Think it's time I got a new laptop. Everything is backed up onto a Toshiba external disk drive.
Will it be easy to load everything onto new laptop?
I use it mainly for email, photo storage, usual Internet business eg bank, phone and energy payment, skype, and watching SKy. Occasionally download films etc.
What should I look for in new laptop and any suggestions for a budget of < €1000 ? Thanks
 
You don't use the laptop for anything intensive ,so what are your priorities?
Battery life
Storage
Screen size
Touch

Pity the old one is busted.

One of the options Dell offers is a "Transfer My PC" product, software and a cable to suck all the information, emails, documents, software & licences, accounts, passwords & login details from the old system to the new one, saving lots of hassle. It could be the best 50 or so quid you'll ever spend, but your old PC needs to be up and running.

If it's just a switch, it could be worth fixing and if it's fixed, you might save yourself 500 quid!
 
We got a Sony 17inch touch screen for about $1500

Waste of money as we rarely use it (iPad etc) and rarely use the touch function as we've a remote mouse.

however, the larger screen meant there is space on the keyboard for the numeric keys on the right. This is very handy.

it's as light as a feather but then again, how heavy can a laptop be??

Bought 2 years ago so probably cheaper now.
Make sure the built in mondem/router can handle 5g wifi.
 
There is a guy over in LapTop Lab in Donnybrook - and he is one of the best guys I have come across.
