Wonderful Copenhagen

Heading to Copenhagen soon, last time I was there was 22 years ago[broken link removed]

I know the Scandic countries are expensive, none more than Oslo, so I know its going to be expensive, maybe on a par with Dublin

I found a cheap hotel Wake up Copenhagen It looks tiny and I'm not small but it seems to do the job

Anyone stayed here and whats there to do in Copenhagen is the Carlsberg factory open to visitors? I will also do a day trip to Malmo depending on costs. Looking for eats, drinking, things to see that only a tourist and not google can tell me

Buy a Copenhagen Card http://www.copenhagencard.com/ and travel around the Copenhagen region to see danish society and how Danes live. The Danes keep going on how they are the happiest society in the world so so travel around and see of you agree [broken link removed]. Visit the Viking Boat museum at Roskilde http://www.vikingeskibsmuseet.dk (the big boat was made in Dublin). For Danish design check out Illums Bolighus http://www.illumsbolighus.com. Definitely visit Malmo, very laid back and cheaper than Copenhagen (or it was when I was last there). Friday night is when the Copenhageners let their hair down, then it's back to being reserved.

I think you're right with your price comparison with Dublin, pints might be a little more expensive.
One thing to keep in mind is that when eating out, there can be minimal price difference between a fancy burger place and a place that might win a Michelin star in a couple of years. Unfortunately we went for the former (not my decision) and spent as much as we would have at the latter.

I just loved wandering around, looking at the outside of the Parliament building where Borgen was filmed. The National Museum was very interesting too. Must get back there soon.

Will look at going to Malmo and also to Roskilde to see the viking ship and maybe sail in one. Will visit the little mermaid just for the obligatory tourist pics and if Carlsberg do trips then I may visit their museum

I remember last time in Copenhagen and gasping at the prices of McDonalds and quickly walked out so I am not expecting it to be much cheaper, not that I will be eating in McDonalds

Will stroll around and soak it all in and partake in a few local beers and local food

I'm travelling to Copenhagen next week staying there with my wife and 9 year-old son for 3 nights (while I attend a business meeting) and then off to Malmo for 2 nights. Couple of queries. Will the Danish/Swedish shops accept Euro the way we accept sterling and vice versa? Alternatively will the Swedish shops accept DKK and the Danish shops SEK respectively? If not what's the cheapest way to deal with the currency situation? I have an Ulster Bank account but their cash withdrawal charges for ATM cards are prohibitive.

Apart from Tivoli Gardens, any other recommendations for Copenhagen/Malmo for entertaining a 9 year-old?

Also get the bus to Malmo bus 999 as get better views across the bridge its DKK 100 return for Adult not sure about kids. I am going to Roskilde and this costs DKK 130 for an all zones 24 hours transport card getting the train

Can't answer your question re Currency. I am taking so much and taking money out via ATM. I travel a lot and this is the best method. Take out large amounts, not to much so that your charged only once but let your Bank know your traveling there in case they put a stop on your card.
