Please forgive me if this sounds stupid but I have had health insurance for over 30 years but last year had to give it up due to a drop in income unfortunately and I am now 58 years of age, someone said to me that I will be okay as I would have 'credits' built up should I require hospitalisation, can anyone shed any light on this for me or is it pure nonsense?

Hi dariuscork,

Unless you renew your health insurance again, you will not be entitled to hospitalisation as a private patient. You would be entitled to
hospitalisation as a public patient.
The 'credits' built up they are referring to, relate to the loadings that would apply to people over 34 years that came into effect today.
You would be given credit for the 30 years that you had health insurance which means you would have another 6 years before loadings would apply if you take out health insurance again.
Another thing to be aware of if you renew your health insurance, is that you would be treated as a new customer, with a waiting time
to serve of 5 years for pre-existing conditions. I'm not sure if your previous company would waive this waiting time as a concession,
which is at their discretion.

Regards, Snowyb
