Taxi I was passenger in was rear ended. Do I need to do something this evening?

On my way home tnite (about an hour ago) the taxi I was in was rear ended as he stopped suddenly for an errant pedestrian. Taxi driver & rear ender guy argued for a bit before taximan asked if I was ok, said he was calling the guards and offered to get me another taxi. I took another taxi but first photographed both reg's. Should I have done anymore? Should I have awaited guards? Taken insurance details etc? Feeling crappy all week and don't want now to wake up with whiplash and Regret not having reported it or something. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Yes, you should have waited. There's no harm reporting it to your local Garda station, letting them know you were a witness to the incident, but hopefully you don't end up with injuries so there's be no need to go any further than that. The Taxi driver should have given you his contact details. The Gardaí can contact him after you speak to them.

please please contact the gardai or the taxi driver as i was involved in a one on one fender bender and you would not believe the trouble i had getting closure as it was my word against his.

An indepenendent witness rules out any hassle for the innocent party and would have closed my case within a week rather than still ongoing since January.

The OP was a passenger in the taxi, not the driver of the other car.

I don't think "kceire" was saying, or even intimated, that the OP was driving either car but rather was saying that he/she is an independent witness.

IMHO being a passenger in a car that is involved in an accident could bring into question just how independent that witness is, but this being a taxi this question may not be pertinent, therefore the OP's statement could be very important.

That was quite obvious from the OP's post tbh. He is an Independant witness and may mean the difference between the right full decision been made promptly over months of arguing he said, she said.
