Quitting my job - what am I entitled to?

Hi all,

I've handed in my notice to my employer. I've been with the company for 10 years. My wife and I are jointly accessed. She is working so we are assuming my tax credits will pass to her.

Am I entitled to sign up to the social welfare and receive anything at all?

Thanks

You will probably be disqualified for the first 9 weeks from jobseekers benefit as you are leaving voluntarily. Then assuming you are jobseeking and have the correct contributions you will get JSB for 9 months approx., after that if you have not found work you can apply for Jobseekers allowance but this will be means tested based on your wife's income.

Thanks Monbretia, apologies for the stupid questions. I am not an expert on this subject:confused: So when I leave my job do I need to register with the social welfare anyway even though I am not receiving any benefits?

Yes you should. If you are unclear on anything maybe a trip to Citizens Info office if there is one near one can be very informative.

I wouldn't assume that!Ring them up and get them to do it while on the phone.
