Hi I wonder if anyone can offer advice - 3 weeks today on the 10th of March my brother had a serious brain bleed . He has been self employed for many years - a single man in his mid 50s, doesnt own a property and has been paying rent for donkey years - his current one bed is 950euro per month. It is still touch and go with him, we have good days and bad days. We dont know what each day will bring. He has only just started responding with his eyes and moving his left arm but as the bleed was on the left they reckon his right side has been damaged badly. There is just myself and himself and our elderly parents. Needless to say I am worried about all 3 of them. I have to tackle the practical stuff and move him out of the apartment, cancel his bills etc and also he has no income at the moment though to be fair he doesnt need it either but I am am trying to be positive and look ahead and should I get something done re an invalidity application or something ? I would really love some advice. Many Thanks

jamieb.

Hope he recovers .

Call to any Social Welfare office,Citizens advice office, I expect they will point you in the right direction.

Hi jamieb,

Very sorry to hear about this happening to your brother. Hopefully you will be able to get the necessary advice and help from the hospital for when he does return home.

As Gerry Canning says you could contact your local Social Welfare office or Citizens Advice office. You may also be able to get some help from the web site www.citizensinformation.ie

The web site saynoto1890.com may also help you to avoid the dreaded charges on the 1890 calls.

deepest sympathies Jamie, it is a very difficul time for you. you must stay strong now for your parents. I hope you will get the suport you need from friends and extended family. Take care.
