Hi,

My girlfriend give up work 2 years ago voluntarily to mind our 2 children. She did not claim job seekers allowance or benefit and had no income. We lived off my income.

She intended to take up part time work after the birth of our second child late last year but suffered an illness shortly after the birth. She qualified for an illness benefit which she is still receiving (about €188 per week).

As I understand it her state pension entitlement is unaffected as you can be a stay at home parent for up to 12 years?

Does she need to do anything or register with social welfare or revenue? She recently had a dental benefit rejected as she has not enough PRSI credits in 2013.

Thanks for help.

See what Citizens Information has to say about the Homemaker's Scheme.

Up to a maximum of 20 homemaking years can be disregarded for State Pension (Contributory) purposes. You do not need to register if you are getting Child Benefit and are providing the child(ren) with full-time care . . because your claim for Child Benefit is treated as an application to be registered as a homemaker.
