Health Insurance Importance of HIA website

The HIA website is an invaluable resource.

I had an Aviva policy expiring at end Feb and was looking at other options, one of the VHI options caught my eye. Then I spotted some new Aviva policies and went for one of those, Teacher Complete, which was has a little bit less cover but was €300 cheaper.

This policy came into existence in mid Feb and is directed at Teachers, I suppose. But there is no trace of it on the Aviva website nor in the online renewal tool they provide, I had to telephone them to get it.

So the legal obligation to provide information to the HIA sight prevents them hiding policies and it should be everyone's first port of call, even if they wish to stay with the same company.

any of the "corporate" designed plans like the teachers is open to everyone, and people can ask about it. This was highlight a number of years ago. each of the insurance companies have similar type plans that were originally aimed at either specific companies/professions, and they have to legally offer them to everyone

Kinda goes to show what a horrid, sordid, secretive set up the entire Health insurance industry is.

It's funny how retailers are open to prosecution if they feature incorrect pricing on products on display on shop floors (a fact that consumer advocates regularly harp on about) yet the major caveat emptor that those seeking Health insurance are regularly warned about is the necessity to carefully research the plan that best fits your requirement and your pocket, as you can be absolutely sure that that is not the policy the insurance company will try to sell you.
