Statement of pension

My spouse works in the civil service but has never received a statement of her pension entitlement or position or length of service from her employer. All she gets every year is a statement of what she has paid into it the previous year.

What does she need to ask for and what is the legal requirement on her employer to provide this statement?
 
Many thanks Billo, useful tool. She has to get SW to give her a statement of benefits apparently.
