Heating Control Panel Issues

Following some Thunderstorm Activity the other night that knocked our power out a few times, I discovered when the power returned the next morning my central heating control panel is completely dead. It is a 3 zoned system. When power went out initially for a few hours there was no problem. I put on all 3 zones when power returned but another storm an hour later knocked out the power again. Next morning when power restored the panel stayed blank. I opened it up but frankly I may as well be looking into a hole. Nothing looks fried or anything. In the meantime cant turn heating on......I though I should be able to kick start the boiler itself but nothing there. Just wondering is it an electrician or plumber I need or both?.... Or is there a simply solution for me to fix it myself without taking out myself/family/home!!!

Systems can be different, so I may be off, and you may need an electician, but. in my system anyway...

The control panel is beside a di-pole switch (with fuse) that cuts all power to the heating. (It's one of those switches that normally have a red light). If the red light isn't lighting, the thunderstorm may have blown the fuse. If you're happy to check the fuse in it, that's the first place I'd look. Also I assume you've checked that there are no trip switches tripped at the fusebox.

One other suggestion is to manually turn on one of the zone valves, and check that the boiler activates. They should normally have a micro switch that turns on the boiler (you will hear the click) at the end of the levers travel. This might isolate the fault. If the boiler fires, then it may be that the control box is fried.
