Deducting the cost of a pyrite test

Hello all,
Would the expense of getting a pyrite test be allowable as a deductible for tax purposes?

I have had my house for sale since May 2014. It was previously rented out. A buyer asked that a pyrite test be carried out before they would bid for it. I got one done costing 2k.

There was no one renting the house during that time. Can I put this down as an expense for rental income purposes or as part of the cost of selling the house?
Thanks

Not an expert on the matter but I would think from the way you have presented the query that it would be more likely to be allowed as an expense for CGT rather than a rental income expense.
Will you have a capital gain. Has your buyer requested the test in writing as a precondition.
It was not let at the time and it was not let since and it would appear that you are not going to let it any more. That is how I come to the conclusion that you will not be able to claim for it against rental income
