This questions pops up a lot about waiting times for treatment in public sector... there's good information here from today's Irish Independent:
http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/massive-increase-in-patients-facing-surgery-wait-30947116.html

While 797 adults and children were on waiting lists for 12 months or more in November 2013, the number enduring this delay rose to 4,532 in the same month in 2014. The figures reveal the uphill struggle hospitals face in 2015 in reducing waiting times even to the modest 18 months set for the summer by Health Minister Leo Varadkar. Waiting times to see a specialist have also shown little improvement with 55,733 patients on lists for more than a year last November. This compares to 56,733 in November 2013...
The number of patients waiting more than three months for endoscopies, which examine areas of the body such as the stomach, intestines and bladder, also rose to 4,879. Although the target for colonoscopies, to examine the bowel for conditions such as cancer, is four weeks, there were 15 patients waiting longer in November.
