It is possible to start the process, but in at some point you will have to provide proof of identity either by visiting the bank or some other agency that will perform the identity check and is acceptable to the bank. This is a money laundering requirement and is the same across the EU.
Whether or not you are successful will depend on:
- If the bank accepts non resident customers (most small banks do not)
- Your knowledge of German as many banks only do business in German
- You meet the AUM figure for international banks, if they have one.
