helping future executor

My elderly father is doing up his will and appointed me executor. He worries a lot and wants to make things as easy as possible for the future. He had suggested making a list of all his bank accounts so I wouldn't have to try and track them down. Someone else suggested getting all the details of his life assurances etc. Is there anything else that would be looked at as part of the estate? he wants to leave a document with all relevant information along with the will, so we are not left tracking down stuff. It feels odd doing it now, but I know it will give him peace of mind to get it sorted. Is there a list of common things people have as part of their estate (eg curent accounts, savings, prize bonds, insurances etc?)

any help appreciated. thanks

Morbid as it seems you need details of burial instructions and grave if applicable.

Yes it would be a good idea to do that definitely thanks. I had discussing it but i know it will put his mind at rest

If he owns property, you should know where the deeds are.

If he has an occupational pension, you should know who pays it, and have a contact address so that they can be notified on his demise.

Simple things like his PRSI number, medical card details, any bills that are in his name (eg ESB) that may need to be changed to your mothers name (if she is still alive) or cancelled altogether. Some of these may not be strictly be within the remit of an executor but if you are the one "sorting out his affairs" it could fall to you to do those as well.
