Disability Allowance Suspended

Hi I was sick for a couple of weeks during the Christmas period and I couldn't go out. I was owed 5 weeks disability allowance (thought it was 4) anyway one week was sent back to the department and they sent me a letter telling me I was suspended. The local social welfare office told me I had 30 days to collect my DA. I collected it on the 28th day so that week in question should have never been sent back.

I honestly don't know whats going to happen now and I have no energy to get into another battle with this department.

Letter says
please respond within 14 days as your payments have been suspended until a reply is received.

I did this.

A good trick here is write the date down on the letter you write back to them, under your name and address on the top right hand side.Take a photocopy of the letter and documentation that you are sending back. This photocopy is for you to keep.

Then register the letter with An Post that you are sending back to DSP.
Ok I know its going to cost you 5 euro to register it,but this way you have proof of date of reply and also proof of date of postage. The DSP have to accept that, when sometimes they wont accept your word.

Suspending a claim for non-collection of a payment is standard procedure.

If the Dept are satisfied that the reason was valid (such as illness), your claim will resume payment and arrears will be issued. You should reply within 14 days to avoid delays.

Disability Allowance payments are available in post offices for 28 days, not 30. Payment is available from the Wednesday payment date to close of business on Tuesday, 4 wks later.

I registered the letter to them today. So I missed the deadline by a couple of hours. Last year though when I got my pass I got a letter saying when my first payment will be in the post office it said it was 30 days. The woman I spoke to on the phone said as soon as they get the form back it will be unsuspended. She was very nice and sent me out a form so I can get my dad to collect it. She said I might get the week I missed back. To be fair I didn't even notice it was 28 days I thought it was only 24/25 days I was ill. Do you reckon I will get that week back?

Bssed on the conversation you had with the woman, it sounds like there will be no problem getting the missed week back.

Arrears are usually paid by cheque rather than at the post office.
