Vat Threshold

Hi All,

Is a software licence considered a good or a service with respect to the vat threshold?

The limit is 75k for goods and services 37.5k

The only reason I could see it as a good is where it is sold as physical product - that is the way it used to be but not sure now if stuff is even sold like this any more.

I would say a service.

Also if you are small business and are considering registering for VAT I would recommend the Flat rate scheme as it cuts down on Admin.

Most definitely a service (I've been in the business for a while now). I haven't reached the VAT threshold yet, but the new EU VAT MOSS regulations starting on the 1st of January, with all their complicated rules of assessment, are already giving me a headhace.

@MattAnderson I'm not aware of a Flat Rate scheme, what is it?
