Affordable Housing-Process/Plans Cork County

Hi Jasonia,

Hoe long did it take after signing the contracts to get the keys? Did you get a snag list done?
 
The Cork County Council website is poor enough, only mention made to houses availible in Kildorrery and Kanturk.

And no email address to email them?

Are all developments advertised on the website or just a select few. I'm really just trying to get an idea of what will be availible in 2008.
 
I'm just wondering, how long does it take from application to actually getting a house, approximately? Like would it be about 5 years? Just trying to do a budget for the next few years (want to buy a car, need to think about insurance etc) and would like to know how long I'll be renting for!

Hi Corcaigh2008,

It only appears to be the developments in North Cork that are advertised on the website so normally if you ring the council they will let you know what area's are coming up.

We are meeting our solicitor tmrw to sign so cant wait to get things moving along. Do you know have they got your contracts out yet or anything?
 
Nope, dont really know anything to be honest. Got onto the council last week, and was told that its between my solicitor and their solicitor to close the sale at this stage. But my sol is away for another week or so, so when she's back I presume she'll start chasing up my contracts.

Do you know how long your gonna be waiting for your keys?

Do you have to get a snag list done? My solicitor advised me to get one....
 
My solictor advised me to get one done 2. I don't know if the snag list is done before the mortgage drawdown is completed so in that case it be at least another few weeks before the keys are handed over I presume. Have you much of your furntiure and stuff organised.
 
I told her Im just gonna get a friend of mine from the building trade to come and have a look for me, he'll know if the house is up to scratch. Your looking at another 400/500 to get an engineer in.

Dont really have much furniture orgnised, cant really order much until I have the keys. Ordered my couches alright yesterday, but they are gonna take 8-10 weeks so please god Ill have the keys by then! What about you?
 
I have most things organised. I am leaving the tiles and flooring until I have the keys to get the right measurements and stuff.
Are you taking your house insurance with EBS?
 
Ya, took my insurance with EBS.

When you say you have most of your furnture organised, how do you go about that if you dont have a date for them to deliver them?
 
Most places hold the furniture until you are ready to move in I got most of mine in ez living.

I was going with EBS for my insurance until I got quotes from brokers for over one hundred cheaper so look into that.
 
Oh thats handy, I should start sorting things out soon. I have a few things picked out alright, but havent bought them or anything yet.

Will prob look into the insurance so if its that much cheaper....
 
You should when there is that much of a difference with it. Alot of companies do it online aswell and it's a bit cheaper again. Hopefully you will hear from your solicitor soon. Hopefully we will be in soon anyway.
 
One other question you or someone reading this might know the answer to:

I want to get a new(ish) car on finance but not too sure where this will leave me with the bank, I heard they do 1 last credit check before they hand over the check. If this is true, would this affect me in any way??

Congrats to all who've got houses. As I know, it's a long and tedious process.
Does anyone know about the affordable housing "units" in The Orchards in Kinsale? Are they houses or appartments?
