Hi all. Some advice/help required. I`ve been...

Hi all. Some advice/help required. I`ve been living in Belfast for the past month after moving (after a break up) from Holland. I moved here after several weeks flat hunting and travelling back and forth. I finally found a place and signed a private lease on the 16th of last month. I paid my deposit/1st months rent with what i had. I then contacted my local Benefits Office seeking advice until i found work. Since this day last month when i applied for Jobseekers I haven`t received anything. I`ve been told (after enquiring several times) that JS was denied. When i asked why i was told theres a letter on its way. After waiting (foolish) i went back to the office where i was told the reason my claim was denied was "i`ve not been a habitual resident in the UK for the past 14 years". Prior to 13 months in Holland i was in Dublin.

Can someone please advise me why/how my claim was denied?

I signed on 2 weeks ago and will sign on on Friday. I`m a UK born citizen and i`m getting really angry about the way im being treated. I don`t want handouts, just help until I get settled.

Any advice would be much appreciated

I am due to return to work having been on maternity and unpaid leave for a year. During my absence my job has been changed so when I return, I will not be doing the job which I left, well maybe 10% of it. I am seriously thinking of resigning for a number of reasons, one of which is a very long commute with a small child. Am I correct in thinking that I am entitled to return to work to the exact same job which I left and if this is not available to me, do I have an entitlement to redundancy? Thanks for your views/comments.

Hi all,

My wife and I have identified a house...

Hi all,

My wife and I have identified a house we would like to buy. We are FTB's. We are in the process of getting mortgage approval and were happy with the property price. However, the uncertainty with the Greek situation and it's possible contagion effect on Spain, Italy and ourselves and the Euro as a currency has stopped us in our tracks.

Having (luckily) avoided getting caught up in buying during the peak of the bubble and being able to rent and save since then, my fear would be if we were to buy now and then for a euro split to happen (in any of the possible ways listed in various threads) and that our mortgage would stay in the stronger euro vs the punt nua or whatever.

I was wondering how you all see the next few years panning out, and if you would buy or not?? We are lucky enough to both have good jobs and have savings so bank has said mortgage won't be an issue.

And incidentally, we were in two banks and they were saying they are much busier in terms of mortgage applications. Bank talk I know but if it is true, is everyone else not as overly concerned as I am?

Thanks for any input you provide.

I have 2 MBNA credit cards both of which were 10.9% interest rate. They are both up to their limit and I pay off the minimum payment each month. Total 16000 between two cards. I can't get a loan to pay them off until I clear a couple of other loans hopefully next year.
They have sent me a letter to say the interest rate on both cards is increasing to 16.9%. Obviously I am not happy about the increase and wonder if there is anything I can do. If I reject the change I am unclear as to whether they will want me to pay off the balance in full which I can't do or if I can close the account and just continue to pay it off.
Any advice welcome.

What is total income? does it include Income that is exempt from USC?
for instance -- person earns 5k rent & gets 15k SW pension

do they pay usc on the 5k because their total income is 20K
or are they exempt because their income to which USC would normally apply is less then 10036?

Hi Guys,

Looking for a bit of advice. I may be able to buy a plot of land from a friend who was refused planning due to them putting down on the planning forms a city address (they wanted to move to countryside)This was the main reason why they were refused.

They have gotten fed up with Ireland and are moving abroad, doesnt want the land anymore.

My question is, how long do you have to be living in an area before you can apply? I am 5 years living in my housing estate which is within 5 miles from land and would love to build myself.

Some people tell me its 10 years, others, say its 3, is there a definative rule on this?

Any other tips?

As always, thanks a mill.
